DACUM Facilitation/Occupational Task Analysis

We use DACUM, a quick yet valid job analysis technique to can help you design or validate programs of instruction. WIDS Consultants set up the DACUM, facilitate the process, and analyze the data to create a clear snapshot of duties and tasks. We also create validation surveys and help faculty ensure program competencies link directly to needed occupational skills.

Instructional Alignment and Standards Mapping

We work with you to align your curriculum to state, national, or occupational standards. When alignment is implemented in WIDS software, you’ll have easy access to documentation you need for accreditation and certification. We help clients with instructional alignment – ensuring that there is a strong connection between what is taught and what is assessed.

Wisconsin Technical Colleges

Wisconsin Technical Colleges are part of a 16-college state-wide system. WIDS works with the technical colleges to:

  • Lead the development and review of program and course outcomes
  • Facilitate the design of technical skills attainment assessments
  • Conduct DACUMs for new program development and program revision
  • Manage statewide curriculum repository

Interactive Learning

As a sub-contractor for Interactive Learning (Littleton, Colorado), WIDS oversaw the alignment of national standards to the AF JROTC Naval Science 1 (NS 1) course learning outcomes. Consulting included:

  • Standards alignment within the NS 1 Instructor Guide
  • Curriculum standards mapping documentation (matrices)

Air Force JROTC Science of Flight

Under the direction of a sub-contractor’s guidance and oversight, WIDS worked closely with AF JROTC instructors, instructional design specialist, and NASA Subject Matter Experts to develop a variety of student learning activities and engaging materials for the AF JROTC Science of Flight (SOF) course. This project’s deliverables included:

  • Development of competencies and objectives for SOF
  • Alignment of competencies to National Science and Mathematic Standards
  • Development of writing, science, mathematics, and technology related learning activities with learning materials, instructional strategies, and formative assessments for course’s Instructor Guide

Army JROTC Cadet Command

Since 2000, WIDS has worked closely on curriculum design and alignment with the United States Army Cadet Command, JROTC.

The types of consulting projects have included:

Boston Public Schools - Arts

Boston Public Schools (BPS) Arts Department partnered with WIDS to correlate Common Core standards to course guides for Arts courses and to create easily accessible documentation for the courses. WIDS consultants:

  • Mapped course learning objectives in 70+ courses to Common Core standards
  • Delivered outcome matrices in four program areas (music, dance, theater, visual arts) throughout the K-12 curriculum
  • Provided model curriculum that teachers can adapt or use as is

BPS uses WIDS software as a central system for district-wide Arts curriculum, which allow district teachers to access curriculum, learning objectives, learning activities, and shared documents.

Junior Achievement

Client since 2005

Junior Achievement provides in-school and after-school learning opportunities to more than 4 million students in the United States and an additional 5 million students around the globe. WIDS partners with JA to:

  • Map key learning objectives to state and national standards (Common Core, Financial Literacy, NCSS, etc. )
  • Make correlations between JA programs and standards transparent to teachers in program reports
  • Deliver hundreds of state/national correlations reports for JA's 23 programs

Midwestern BioAg

Midwestern BioAg (MBA) is an industry leader in biological agriculture. MBA provides a route to “better farming through better soils”. They support farmers in building the capacity of the soil to provide a wide range of economic and environmental benefits for the farm. MBA has been successfully helping farmers for more than 30 years, with sales of over $30 million and over 3500 farmer customers on more than 500,000 acres. WIDS partnered with MBA to:

  • Conduct a valid job analysis using the DACUM technique to design their sales consultant training programs
  • Create training to prepare their sales team for success in the field

TAACCCT Grant - NWTC

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) in Green Bay, WI is the lead college for a $14.9 million TAACCCT, three-year grant awarded in 2012 from the U.S. Department of Labor. Wisconsin’s 16 technical colleges are expanding and enhancing their programs to close the skills gap in advanced manufacturing. As part of the grant requirements, deliverables produced by the grant must be reviewed by third party subject matter experts.

WIDS partnered with NWTC to:

  • Review all program and course curriculum produced by the consortium colleges
  • Review the consortium college Roadmaps that market the manufacturing pathways
  • Review the recommendations of an assessment tool used by the consortium colleges during the grant

United States Air Force – Air University

United State Air Force (USAF) Senior NCO Academy (SNCOA) and Chief Leadership Course (CLC) for the USAF Air University. WIDS consultants served on a team with other government contracted lead instructional designers to develop SCORM-compliant courses. The projects included the development of:

  • SCORM compliant storyboards to support USAF approved SLO
  • Blackboard ready course designed for as self-paced or with small group delivery
  • Online learning and assessment activities including discussion threads, Blogs, and case studies

WI Department of Workforce Development

The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) partnered with WIDS to develop new and revise existing apprenticeship programs in the state of WI. WIDS conducted DACUMs to analyze the occupations.

Then using the DACUM, WIDS worked to define the related instruction for statewide use by the Wisconsin Technical College System. The projects included curriculum development for:

  • industrial pipefitting
  • child care
  • injection mold setup
  • urban forestry
  • heavy equipment operating engineer
  • maintenance technician
